Thank you, Keon

After eight seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, international defensive back Keon Raymond has signed a free-agent deal with the Toronto Argonauts.

“We were in discussions with Keon and his agent right until the end and the door was always open for him to remain in Calgary but ultimately he made the decision that the situation in Toronto was better for him,” said Stampeders general manager John Hufnagel.

“For eight years Keon has been a consistent performer on the field with a knack for game-changing big plays. He also made many contributions off the field through his community work. I thank him for all of his contributions to the organization and wish him all the best in the future.”

Raymond was a versatile performer during his eight seasons in Calgary, seeing action at various positions in the secondary and showing a penchant for big plays. His five interception returns for touchdown are tied for the most in franchise history and his 24 career picks are the most of any Stamps player in the past quarter-century.

He was a West Division all-star in 2011 and 2012, a CFLPA all-star in 2012 and a two-time winner of the Presidents’ Ring as the player deemed to have best combined excellence on the field with leadership, inspiration and motivational skills. The St. Louis native made his permanent home in Calgary and was involved in numerous charitable causes including Canadian Blood Services, the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters Leading Change program and his wife Bianca’s annual school-supplies drive.

Raymond was a Grey Cup winner in 2008 and 2014 with Calgary.
