Calgary Stampeders general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the signing of national linebacker and special-teamer James Green.

The University of Calgary alum is a seven-year veteran who spent the past two seasons with the Ottawa RedBlacks. He has recorded double digits in special-teams tackles in six of his seven seasons including 15 in 17 games with Ottawa in 2015. The 31-year-old Vernon, B.C., product also played in the Eastern Final and Grey Cup.

“James is a veteran who has been a very good special-teams player over the course of his career,” said Hufnagel. “He will have the opportunity to become an important part of our special-teams unit.”

Green has played 106 career regular-season games for the Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and RedBlacks and has recorded 99 special-teams tackles, four fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. He was selected in the third round (18th overall) by Toronto in the 2009 draft and spent one year with the Argos before joining the Blue Bombers in 2010. Green was selected by Ottawa in the 2013 expansion draft.

Green was a Canada West all-star at safety for the Dinos in 2008.

“I am so excited to be a member of the Calgary Stampeders organization and am honoured to play for a Class-1 organization such as the Stamps,” said Green. “I have many memories here as I was a member of the Calgary Dinos football program and look forward to helping contribute to the high standard of success that the Stampeders organization exemplifies.”
