Stamps captains selected by player vote

Bo Levi Mitchell, Deron Mayo, Rob Cote and Rene Paredes are the Stampeders’ captains for the 2016 season. The four were chosen as a result of a player vote.

Mitchell is in his fifth season with Calgary and his second as a team captain. He is coming a year in which he was the all-star quarterback in the West Division. He was also the West Division nominee for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award a year and was the Grey Cup MVP in the Stamps’ 2014 championship win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 2015, he was named the Herm Harrison Memorial Award for his service to the community.

Mayo is in his fifth season with the Stamps and his first as a team captain. The 28-year-old Hampton, Va., native was the Stampeders’ nominee for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award in 2015 after recording a team-high 72 tackles as well as five sacks a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Cote, the longest-serving player on the current Stamps roster, is a Stamps captain for the fifth time in his career. He joined the team in 2007 and has 158 games of experience and two Grey Cups with the Red and White. The 29-year-old Cochrane native was the 2013 and 2015 recipient of the Presidents’ Ring award, as voted by his teammates, for demonstrating excellence on and off the field.

Paredes is entering his sixth season with the Stampeders and his third as a captain. He is a three-time division and CFL all-star and was the Stamps’ nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2012, 2013 and 2015. The 31-year-old holds league records for most consecutive successful field-goal attempts and best single-season field-goal success rate.
