About last night . . .

Here’s a closer look at Friday’s tie in the Nation’s Capital:

Let’s go streaking

Bo Levi Mitchell connected with Marquay McDaniel in the first quarter for a 35-yard touchdown. That extended Mitchell’s streak of consecutive games played with at least one touchdown pass to 18 games.

That improves Mitchell’s franchise record — Doug Flutie, with 16 straight games with a TD pass over the 1994 and 1995 seasons had held the mark — and ties the Texas gunslinger with Khari Jones for the sixth-longest streak in CFL history.

Sam Etcheverry holds the record with a TD pass in 34 straight games from 1954-56. Travis Lulay (26 games), Anthony Calvillo (separate streaks of 23 and 21) and Toronto Argos-era Flutie (21) are the only other players with longer streaks.

Fit to be tied

Friday’s tie was the Stamps’ first draw since Oct. 17, 2009, when Calgary and Saskatchewan played to a 44-44 saw-off at McMahon Stadium.

It was the first tie on the road since a 52-52 final at Regina’s Taylor Field on July 28, 2000, and it was Calgary’s lowest-scoring draw (52 total points) since the Stamps tied Toronto 24-24 in a game played July 8, 1982, exactly 34 years before Friday’s contest.

That 1982 season is the most recent time in franchise history the Stamps were 1-1-1 after three games.

It’s the first tie for the Stamps in 62 all-time games against three Ottawa franchises — the Rough Riders, the Renegades and the RedBlacks.

Spreading the wealth

On Friday, Bakari Grant made his regular-season debut and hauled in eight passes for 89 yards including a key 46-yarder late in the fourth quarter that set up the Stamps’ game-tying touchdown.

Meanwhile, rookie Juwan Brescacin recorded his first CFL catch with an 11-yard completion.

That brings the number of Stamps receivers with at least one catch in 2016 to an even dozen, a total that includes offensive lineman Dan Federkeil who had a 21-yard catch on a trick play on the season-opener.

Six Stamps have at least five catches so far this season including Marquay McDaniel and Joe West, who are tied for the team lead with 206 receiving yards.
