About last night …

Here’s a closer look at Thursday’s game against the Blue Bombers:

Putting the “Win” in Winnipeg

The Manitoba capital has long been a miserable place for the Stampeders to visit, but it’s been a very different story in recent seasons.

Thursday’s win was the eighth in a row for the Red and White on the road against the Bombers. From 1993-2001, Calgary had a 7-1 mark in Winnipeg. If you exclude those two stretches of success, the Stamps have a 28-56 mark in the ’Peg.

A change of venue hasn’t hurt — the Stamps were just 38-57 at Osborne Stadium and Winnipeg/Canad Inns Stadium, the Bombers’ homes prior to 2013, but they’re 5-0 at Investors Group Field.

Amazingly, the Stamps have just two fewer wins at IGF than the Bombers (seven).

Still streaking

One of the reasons the Stamps have enjoyed recent success against the Bombers and at Investors Group Field in particular is the play of Bo Levi Mitchell.

The Stamps pivot is 5-0 at the Bombers’ new home and Thursday’s performance was his fifth career 300-yard passing game in eight starts against the Bombers.

In addition, he threw a touchdown pass for a 19th consecutive start to extend his franchise record and take sole possession of the sixth-longest such streak in CFL history.

Montreal’s Sam Etcheverry holds the record with a TD pass in 34 straight games from 1954-56. Travis Lulay (26 games), Anthony Calvillo (separate streaks of 23 and 21) and Doug Flutie (21) are the only other players with longer streaks.

Mitchell now has 1,220 passing yards on the season, easily surpassing the 975 yards he had in 2015 for the most passing yards he’s had four games into a season.

Thursday marked the sixth time in his career he’s had at least three touchdown passes in a regular-season outing.

By the bye

Thursday’s result continued a remarkable streak of success for the Stamps coming off a bye week. Calgary has now won 14 games in a row after a week off dating back to the 2005 campaign and are 16-4 since byes were added to the CFL schedule in 2002.

The Stamps have also enjoyed success on the other end of things as they’re also 16-4 when facing an opponent that is coming off a bye, and they’ll be in that position again next week when the BC Lions — idle in Week 5 — come to McMahon Stadium on Friday.

In case you missed it . . .
