Stamps add pair to practice roster

The Calgary Stampeders have added international defensive back Shaquille Richardson and international defensive lineman James Vaughters to the practice roster.

Richardson spent five weeks on the Stamps’ practice roster at the end of last season and he also attended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 2015 training camp.

He was drafted in the fifth round (157th overall) by the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014 and he has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.

Richardson played 49 games over four seasons at the University of Arizona and recorded 189 total tackles, including eight tackles for loss, 10 interceptions, 30 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Vaughters signed with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2015, and he spent time on the club’s practice roster. He signed a reserve-future contract with the New England Patriots on Jan. 21, 2016, and was released on May 2, 2016.

He played linebacker for four seasons at Stanford, appearing in 54 games and making 18 starts. Vaughters recorded 124 total tackles during his career with the Cardinal, including 21.5 tackles for loss, as well as 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

In another transaction, international defensive lineman Josh Francis has been released from the practice roster.
