Stamps visit Alberta Children’s Hospital

In keeping with their yearly tradition, five Stampeders players made the trip to the Alberta Children’s Hospital on the day prior to the Stamps’ home game against the BC Lions.

After last month’s launch of the Shane Homes-sponsored 2016 Every Yard Counts program, Fred Bennett, Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, Taylor Reed, Brandon Smith and Jamar Wall made their long-anticipated return to the healthcare facility. The Stamps have not played at McMahon Stadium since back on July 1, therefore delaying their next visit until Thursday afternoon.

Smith, an eight-year veteran with the Red and White, has participated in the program each and every year since arriving in Calgary and now serves as the team’s official player representative for Every Yard Counts. Meanwhile, Reed, an off-season acquisition for the Stampeders, attended the event for the very first time.

Ashleigh, Chelsea and Madison of the Outriders, presented by Century Downs, were also on hand to help spread the Stampeder spirit.

A portion of the Stamps representatives spent their time visiting children and posing for pictures in the hospital’s mental health unit while others made the trip upstairs to the art studio, painting rocks and signing autographs for various patients and their parents.

Also, mini-footballs and official team posters were distributed throughout the one-hour stay. Shane Homes donates tickets to the hospital as part of the Every Yard Counts program and patients attend every Stamps home game.

The Stamps’ next appearance at the Alberta Children’s Hospital as part of Every Yard Counts will take place next Wednesday before facing the Saskatchewan Roughriders the following night.
