About last night …

Here’s a closer look at Saturday’s 19-10 Stampeders victory in Regina:

So long, Mosaic

Unless Calgary and Saskatchewan cross paths in the playoffs, Saturday’s game marked the Stampeders’ final visit at the stadium formerly known as Taylor Field. The Roughriders will move into new Mosaic Stadium in 2017.

Saturday’s victory was the Stamps’ 53rd in the regular season at the Riders’ longtime home, which is one more win than the 52 the Red and White earned at Mewata Stadium, their home for the first 15 years of their existence.

McMahon Stadium, the Stamps’ home since 1960, is naturally the only stadium that has been the site of more wins by the Red and White. The Stamps have won 318 times at McMahon.

Joy of six

The Stamps have now won four games in a row and are unbeaten in six. Calgary has the longest winning and unbeaten streaks in the CFL this season.

Calgary is now 48-12-1 since the start of the 2013 campaign with a pair of six-game unbeaten streaks over that period. The Stamps have eight winning streaks of at least four games in the past four seasons.

No TD, no 300, but a win

A couple of Bo Levi Mitchell streaks came to an end on Saturday but another — and undoubtedly the most important one — continued.

Mitchell’s streak of consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass ended at 21 and his run of 300 games was barely — he made it to 298 — snapped at five.

However, Mitchell did manage to extend his streak of wins over the Roughriders to five. The Calgary signal-caller is 5-0 in his career against both Saskatchewan and Hamilton and 4-0 against Toronto.

His career record is 33-7-1, the best in CFL history for a quarterback in his first 41 decisions. Jackie Parker, Ken Ploen and Tracy Ham were all 33-8 after 41 games.

Olé, El Matador

For the third time in his career, Stamps placekicker Rene Paredes — nicknamed El Matador by his teammates — has a consecutive-field-goal streak of at least 20.

Paredes pushed his current active streak to 20 by converting all four of his attempts on Saturday in Regina. He already has two of the 11 longest streaks in CFL history with a record 39 in a row in 2012-13 and 22 straight in 2015.

Paredes also converted a touchdown on Saturday and now has 939 career points. He’s 25th all-time in all-time CFL scoring and 61 points away from being just the 22nd player in league history to kick for 1,000 points.

Messam messes with former team

Jerome Messam is still kicking himself for a fumble that spoiled what was an otherwise spectacular 63-yard catch and run but the Calgary tailback still had a good night against his previous employers.

Messam had 113 yards from scrimmage — 86 receiving and 27 rushing — and accounted for the Stamps’ only major with a two-yard run. He also surpassed the 1,500-yard mark in career receiving.

In three games against Saskatchewan since he was traded from the Riders to the Stamps on Oct. 14, 2015, Messam has 380 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Marquay on the mark

No, you aren’t seeing double — Marquay McDaniel had identical lines of eight catches for 110 yards in each of the two wins over Saskatchewan in the past 10 days.

McDaniel has already matched a career single-season high with three 100-yard games in 2016.

The slotback seems to get better with age as the 32-year old is on pace for the best season in his career.

In his first four CFL seasons, McDaniel had 190 catches for 2,490 and no 1,000-yard seasons. In three seasons and seven games since turning 29, he has 256 receptions for 3,403 yards and two 1,000-yard seasons.
