The Calgary Stampeders will recognize a group of Canadian Olympians at Sunday’s game at McMahon Stadium including Erica Wiebe, the gold-medal winner in women’s 75-kg freestyle wrestling at the Rio Games.

Also being honoured are wrestler Jasmine Mian, men’s volleyball team member Jay Blankenau, swimmer Yuri Kisil and track athletes Maria Bernard and Jessica O’Connell.

Wiebe, Mian and Blankenau are University of Calgary alums while Kisil, Bernard and O’Connell are all Calgary natives.

“It was a great Olympics for the Canadian team and we’re especially proud of our local athletes,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “As a football team that proudly wears red and white, we’re pleased to have this opportunity to pay tribute to these six Canadian athletes.”

The Olympians will be introduced prior to the 5 p.m. kickoff of Sunday’s game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and take part in pre-game ceremonies including the coin toss.
