About last night …

Here’s a closer look at the Stamps’ 30-24 home-field victory over Hamilton on Sunday:

Halfway home

With Sunday’s contest, the Stamps reach the midway point of the 2016 regular season with a 7-1-1 record.

It’s the fourth year in a row the Stamps have had at least seven wins after nine games. It’s the first time in franchise history Calgary has been 7-1-1 after nine games.

Streaking, Part I

Sunday’s result extends the Stamps’ winning streak to six games and their unbeaten run to eight.

It’s the Stamps’ first six-game winning streak since Aug. 9 to Sept. 13 in 2014. To find the most recent eight-game unbeaten streak by a Calgary team, you have to go all the way back to 1994.

Sunday also marked the Stamps’ 12th consecutive victory in August, their ninth regular-season win in a row against Hamilton and their 12th consecutive “W” at home against the Ticats.

Streaking, Part II

Rene Paredes connected on all five of his field-goal attempts on Sunday and has now been good on 28 straight dating back to a July 8 game in Ottawa.

In CFL history, there have only been two longer streaks of successful field-goal conversions — a run of 30 by Paul McCallum in 2011 and Paredes’ CFL-record streak of 39 over the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

With a total of 16 points on Sunday, Paredes passed the 100 milestone for the season and reached 966 for his career, moving past Dean Dorsey for 24th place on the CFL’s all-time scoring list.

Safe at home

This has been the Year of the Road Warrior in the CFL but apparently the Stampeders haven’t gotten the memo.

Sunday’s victory improved the Stamps’ home record to 4-0 as Calgary is the only team in the league with an above-.500 record on its own turf. The rest of the league is 11-24-1 at home and the Stamps’ four home wins matches the combined total of all four teams in the East Division.

Calgary is 34-6 at McMahon since the start of the 2012 campaign.

Ball security

For a second consecutive game, the Stampeders did not commit any turnovers and for the season they have the fewest giveaways in the league with just 11 in nine games.

The next best team at protecting the football is Winnipeg with 17 giveaways.

The Stamps are 56-1 over the past six years when winning the turnover battle.

QB protection

For a second consecutive game, the Stamps did not allow a sack. That despite the fact that their opponents — Hamilton this week and BC last — rank 1-2 in the CFL in getting to the quarterback with a combined 49 sacks.

Calgary leads the CFL with just 10 sacks allowed in nine games and Bo Levi Mitchell has been taken down behind the line scrimmage a total of just two times in the past four contests.
