Since 1982 and for all but two years since 1969, the Stamps have been hosting the Eskimos in the Labour Day Classic. The Labour Day edition of the Battle of Alberta was first played in Calgary in 1959 and the clubs have met a total of 50 times on the first Monday in September, with the Stamps holding a record of 24-25-1.

Calgary has closed the all-time gap in recent seasons with four consecutive wins and six victories in the past seven years.

The first-place Stamps are 7-1-1 this season after a 30-24 victory over Hamilton at McMahon on Sunday while the Eskimos rose above .500 to 5-4 thanks to a 33-25 victory over Saskatchewan in Edmonton on Friday.

This is the first meeting of the regular season between the provincial rivals.
