About last night …

Here’s a closer look at Saturday’s 48-23 win over the Ottawa RedBlacks:

Make it nine

The Stamps ran their winning streak to nine games, their longest in-season run of victories since a 10-game streak in 1993.

Calgary’s unbeaten streak is now at 11 games, something only one other team in franchise history — the 1948 club that finished the season 12-0 — has accomplished.

Playoff bound

Thanks to Saturday’s results, the Stamps have locked up a playoff spot for the 12th season in a row.

Calgary is assured of at least a crossover position into the East playoffs because it’s impossible for BC, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto to all match or surpass the Stamps’ current total of 21 points because of all the games remaining between those six teams.

CFL stats guru Steve Daniel actually mapped out a highly unlikely scenario that would see seven teams finish at 10-7-1 — for starters, there’d have to be three more ties in the final seven weeks of the season — but even then the Stamps would get in thanks to their 6-1 mark to date against the Lions, Blue Bombers and Eskimos.

Going into the 2016 season, the Lions are the only other team that has qualified for the post-season every year since 2005.

The only longer streak in Stampeders franchise history is the period of 13 straight post-season appearances from 1989 to 2001.

Lighting up the scoreboard

The Stamps have now scored 40-plus points in a game three times this season and they’ve scored 30 or more nine times including each of the past four outings.

The last time Calgary put up at least 30 points in four straight games came in 2012.

The Stamps lead the CFL with 405 points scored and are on pace to score 608 for the season. The Red and White haven’t cracked the 600-point mark since 2010.

West dominating the East

The East prevailed in the first three meetings of the season against West opponents and were 6-3-1 after 10 inter-divisional contests.

Since then, it’s been all West Division, which has compiled a 13-2 record against the East in the past 15 meetings including Saturday’s win by Calgary over Ottawa.

Calgary, BC and Winnipeg — all of them West teams — are the only CFL clubs currently above .500 and they have a combined 13-2-1 mark against the East.

Bo’s big season to date

On Saturday, Bo Levi Mitchell cracked the 300-yard mark in passing for the 10th time in 12 games this season and has a string of five straight games with 300-plus for the second time in 2016.

The two five-game runs book-end an Aug. 13 game against Saskatchewan in which he fell just two yards short of the 300 mark.

Mitchell is on a pace to throw for 5,892 yards, which would be the third-highest passing total in franchise history.
