The generosity of Calgary Stampeders fans resulted in the collection of 3,370 new and gently used jackets at Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as part of the Salvation Army Coat Drive.

The annual event, which is supported by radio station Q107 – Great Hits and Real Classic Rock, is in its 14th year. More than 24,000 coats have been donated since the inception of the Stampeders coat drive and the total will grow even more after the completion of the associated collection program with local schools.

The school that collects the most winter coats will receive an exclusive Calgary Stampeders locker room tour at McMahon Stadium for 50 students and a 2016 team-signed Stampeders jersey.

“Once again, a big thank you to everyone for helping to share the warmth,” said defensive back Brandon Smith, who along with teammate Drew Tate serves as the team representative for the Coat Drive. “The kindness and generosity of our fans never ceases to amaze me and I hope they realize how much their donations mean to those in need.”

Smith and Tate will be at the Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre on Nov. 8 to help sort and distribute the jackets collected in this year’s coat drive.
