Cote: A great all-around team win

Tonight was a great all-around team win. That was a pretty dominant performance and we’ve had some trouble coming into Toronto before.

It was obviously our first time at BMO Field, but with the atmosphere in the city last night with the big Blue Jays win, there was an opportunity for guys to get distracted, but we just proved once again that our guys are focused on the task at hand. We came in, handled our business and got a big win.

Taking our foot off the gas has sometimes been a challenge for us in the past when you jump out to a big lead early. You kind of get complacent and feel like you’ve got it under control. In this league, every team is too good to take your foot off the gas.

I think we have learned that no matter how big of a lead you get in the first quarter, it doesn’t mean anything until you’re in the fourth quarter.

We had a big goal in mind to clinch first place in the West and we achieved that, which obviously is fantastic to do in Week 16.

We came to the field and as soon as you come into the locker room, guys have it on their minds that this is where we want to be (in late November).

We don’t want this to be our last trip to Toronto. If it is, then to me, we’ve failed this season.

You want to win a whole bunch of games in the regular season to achieve the goal of winning first place in the West, which we’ve done, and now we need to keep getting better for the last three games.

It’s the same in a game as it is in a season – it doesn’t matter what big lead you jump out to, it’s how you finish.

We wanted to come in hot this season and focus on each week, but keep in mind the bigger goal that we want to achieve something great!
