Stamps feast with Special Olympians

For Zach Minter and Alex Singleton, new friendships were formed on Monday morning at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Serving as celebrities for the fifth annual Breakfast with Champions in support of Special Olympics Calgary, the Stamps defenders were each paired with a Special Olympian.

Minter took in the event alongside Andrew Turnbull while Singleton shared the experience with Allie Price.

Prior to the food being served, each celebrity and Special Olympic athlete was formally introduced and posed for pictures on stage. Other notable attendees included forward Mikael Backlund of the Calgary Flames, defender Mike Carnegie of the Calgary Roughnecks and head coach Mark French of the Calgary Hitmen.

Former Olympians Cheryl Bernard, Catriona Le May Doan, Kyle Shewfelt and Mark Tweksbury were also seated beside Special Olympians.

Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke was one of numerous speakers, communicating his unwavering support for Special Olympics and the benefits of supporting such a worthy organization.

Three raffle prizes and over 30 silent auction items ranging from CSEC packages to out-of-town getaways highlighted the occasion. A total of 300 hockey pucks signed by a current member of the Flames were sold as well, with one lucky purchaser winning a trip for two courtesy of WestJet.
