With the chance to make history on Sunday, the Calgary Stampeders will square off with the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Kickoff of the Week 19 duel is slated for 11 a.m. MDT.

The Stamps find themselves at 15-1-1 with one final regular-season matchup to go. Bidding for the best record after an 18-game schedule of all time, Calgary has the opportunity to finish with one more point than the 1989 Edmonton Eskimos’ total of 32.

Meanwhile, the Alouettes – third place in the East Division and already eliminated from playoff contention – have six wins and 11 losses.

Due to back-to-back bye weeks on the horizon, this weekend’s matinee will be the final live action for the Stampeders until hosting the Western Final on Nov. 20 against a to-be-determined foe.

Calgary has dropped their past two encounters in Quebec and three of their past four overall. Dating back to 2006, the Stamps have only managed to come out on top in four of their past 10 visits.

On Oct. 15, the Stamps defeated the Alouettes by a score of 22-8 at McMahon Stadium, keeping the Als off the scoreboard for the opening 57 minutes. Anthony Parker and Andrew Buckley each scored majors for the home side while the defence tallied seven sacks and two forced fumbles.

Montreal is coming off a 19-14 road win against the Roughriders in which Vernon Adams, Jr. made his first career start under centre. Calgary successfully defended their home turf with a 31-13 victory over the Argonauts last Friday to finish with a flawless 9-0 record at home.

Eight-year CFL vet Drew Tate gets the start at quarterback on Sunday. This will be Tate’s first start since the 2015 regular-season finale when the Stamps beat the BC Lions in Vancouver.

Having possessed the ball for nearly 100 more minutes this year than their upcoming opposition, Calgary will also have the added advantage of the always-dependable right foot of Rene Paredes. The six-year veteran has made more field goals than any other kicker from 20-29 and 40-49 yards out in 2016.

This week’s 46-man roster will see Frank Beltre, Shane Bergman, Matt Bucknor, Roy Finch and Micah Johnson replace Maleki Harris, Pierre Lavertu, Jamal Nixon, Quinn Smith and Shaquille Richardson.

Key Matchup

Montreal has found the end zone on 62.5 per cent of their red zone trips and Calgary has done the same on 60.7 per cent of such occasions. Those figures are the two highest in the league, much like their respective red zone defences. Montreal surrenders a major on 46.9 per cent of opponents’ trips inside their own 20-yard line and the Stamps sit a near second at 51.1 per cent.
