The Calgary Stampeders have signed fullback Rob Cote.

The 30-year-old Cochrane product is the longest-serving Stamp on the current roster, having joined the club in 2007. He has played 164 career regular-season games for the Red and White and also appeared in 11 playoff contests and three Grey Cups.

“Rob is one of the true leaders of our team,” said Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson. “He had another strong season in 2016 and we’re counting on him to continue being an important contributor to our success.”

Cote is a mainstay of the Stamps’ special-teams units and has recorded 77 special-teams tackles during his career. On offence, his blocking has helped three Stampeders running backs win a combined total of six rushing titles during the past 10 seasons including Jerome Messam in 2016.

Cote has also contributed 106 career catches for 1,108 yards and 12 touchdowns as well as 98 rushing yards. In Week 9 of the 2016 season, Cote made his 100th career catch when he hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Bo Levi Mitchell in a win over the BC Lions.

Cote has served as a team captain for five years and is a two-time winner of the Presidents’ Ring award as voted by his teammates for combining excellence on the football field with leadership, inspiration and motivational skills. Cote has also won the Herm Harrison Memorial Award for his work in the community.

“I’m happy to be back,” said Cote. “I’m proud to be a Stampeder and I wanted to be a part of the organization again this season.”
