Red and White soar past Eagles

In a Friday afternoon affair, the Stamps made sure to put on a show out at Springbank Middle School.

The boys’ and girls’ teams representing the Eagles took turns matching up against the Red and White, but the Stampeders proved to be too tough of a test.

Deron Mayo, serving as head coach for the 2017 Stampeders Basketball Program, was accompanied by his head coach on the football field in Dave Dickenson. The reigning CFL Coach of the Year saw some floor time at his daughter’s school.

Andrew Buckley, Ben D’Aguilar, Dan Federkeil, Bo Levi Mitchell, Rene Paredes, Alex Singleton, Spencer Wilson and Anthony Woodson were all on hand, as was Rob Cote for the first time this season.

Dazzling dribbling by Mitchell and a reverse layup from Cote highlighted the sixth TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program event of the year.

Several students sitting along the sidelines were sporting Stamps jerseys, much to the delight of Ralph the Dog. The Stamps mascot made his way around the gym to entertain all.

The TELUS Players of the Game from Springbank Middle School were Chase and Sarah. Both Eagles representatives earned tickets and food vouchers to the next Calgary Roughnecks home game, a TELUS calendar, critter and selfie stick.

Mark Stephen, the voice of the Calgary Stampeders on News Talk 770 since 1996, was in attendance to provide live commentary of all the action.

Members of the Stamps made themselves available for post-game photos and autographs to conclude the proceedings.

A pair of games next week will see the TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program visit Mountain Park School on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. before travelling to Okotoks’ Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School on Friday for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
