Hoops squad victorious over Spartans

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School just outside Okotoks was the site of the Stamps’ eighth basketball game of the season.

Dan Federkeil, Charlie Power and Spencer Wilson were joined by Stampeders strength and conditioning coach Taylor Altilio for a fun-filled afternoon in the gym.

Friday’s matchup pitted the Red and White against the senior boys’ and girls’ squads representing the Spartans. A hard-fought showdown saw the Stampeders claim victory, but not without some successful drives to the hoop from Strathcona-Tweedsmuir.

Federkeil made sure to unleash several ferocious slam dunks. Meanwhile, Power managed to sink three consecutive three-pointers in the second half. Rebounds were hauled in by Wilson and Altilio scored inside on several occasions throughout his first appearance of 2017.

The designated coach for the TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program, linebacker Deron Mayo, was patrolling the sidelines. Ralph the Dog kept the crowd loud and proud from beginning to end.

Thomas and Amy were recognized as the players of the game for the Spartans. As a result of the excellent effort and outstanding performance on the court, each were given tickets to an upcoming Calgary Roughnecks game, a TELUS calendar, a critter and a selfie stick.

The Stamps have two more games next week to wrap up their 2017 season.
