It is with great sadness that the Calgary Stampeders learn of the death of alumnus Stan Kaluznick. He passed away on Monday at the age of 85.

Kaluznick played with the Stamps from 1950-54 and was the club’s leading rusher in 1951. For his Stamps career, he played 73 regular-season games and accumulated 605 rushing yards and three touchdowns as well as 238 kick-return yards. The St. Boniface, Man., native made his professional debut with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1948 at the age of 17.

In addition to his football career, Kaluznick attended training camp with the National Hockey League’s Detroit Red Wings in 1949.

Kaluznick remained in Calgary after his playing days and was active with the Stampeders alumni association. His business career included ownership of a Royalite service station at 14th Street and 5th Avenue NW and he spent 25 years at Magcobar before founding United Mud Supply.

In 1966, Kaluznick bought the Western Canada Hockey League’s Calgary Buffaloes, renamed the team the Calgary Centennials and became the club’s first general manager. He also served as president of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association.

Kaluznick is survived by his wife Beverley Ann Kaluznick, children Brock Kaluznick (Pat), Trudy Milner (Kevin) and Tracy Paul (Rob) and grandchildren Trina Marshall, Scott Milner, Shannon Paul, Brennan Paul, Hana Kaluznick, Nathalie Kaluznick, Georgia Kaluznick as well as great-grandson Landon Groves, all of Calgary.

Funeral services will be held at McInnis and Holloway (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Thursday, May 25 at 2 p.m.
