Gordon Norrie named as president | Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders ownership group announced today the appointment of Gordon Norrie as President.

“Of the numerous business and human qualities that made Gord stand out for this position, it was his demonstrated ability to lead and mentor people to become top performers,” said Stampeders Co-Chair Ken King. “He knows business, he cares about people and, as a former corporate supporter and fan of the Stampeders, he understands the business side of the CFL. We look forward to Gord guiding us to the next level of success and thus ensuring the Stampeders continue to remain a strong community asset.”

Norrie brings a wealth of experience to the Stampeders in the form of strategic planning, sales and marketing, developing partnerships, financial assessment, customer relations, digital media, communications and branding. His innovative and people-focused leadership style has resulted in several key accomplishments throughout his business career.

“I’m excited to have Gord join our team. Similar to the results we require from our players on the field, he has a proven track record of success in an intensely competitive business,” said Stampeders Head Coach and General Manager John Hufnagel.

Norrie most recently held the position of Executive Vice President, Western Operations for SUN Media where he was responsible for creating the business plan and growth strategy for 52 western-based media operations, print and digital. Prior to this role, he has held the title of Publisher for three western Canada major newspapers. From 1999 through 2010, Norrie led the overall operations for the Winnipeg SUN, Edmonton SUN and Calgary SUN. As his career flourished in the publishing business, in 2007 he added the publisher role of the Calgary SUN while also maintaining the same responsibilities with the Edmonton SUN.

“I am honored and thrilled to become part of the Calgary Stampeders team,” said Norrie. “It’s an organization steeped in a tradition of competing and winning. I look forward to contributing to the Club’s growth and success.”

A native Albertan, Norrie resides in Calgary with his wife Susan and his three children, Ashleigh 11, Christian 13 and Mack 15.
