SALVATION ARMY COAT DRIVE

Saturday, November 1 vs. BC Lions

The Calgary Stampeders and the Salvation Army are working together to provide jackets for those in need.

As the winter months quickly approach, the need for warmth becomes vital for those who are unable to buy a quality winter garment.

The sixth annual Calgary Stampeders and Salvation Army coat drives asks fans coming to the regular-season finale on November 1 against the B.C. Lions, to donate their gently used jackets. Should fans not have a jacket to donate, cash donations will also be accepted.

“This is something that helps us give back and reminds you that there are a lot people in need in Calgary,” said Jeremaine Copeland, Stampeders receiver. “I love it. I look forward to working with the Salvation Army on this drive every year.”

The Salvation Army will have volunteers at each entrance gate of McMahon Stadium to collect jackets and cash donations.

In 2007, the Calgary Stampeders and their fans were able to collect 1,300 jackets and 5,000 in cash, bringing the five-year total to 5,420 coats and over 8,500 dollars raised.

The coats will be distributed to those in need by the Salvation Army on November 5, 2008 at the Salvation Army Booth Centre, the Centre of Hope and other locations across the city.
