POST EVENT REVIEW

The Calgary Stampeders and 75 lucky fans went camping on Saturday, Aug. 16 at Cardel Place.

The Stamps and Cardel Homes joined forces for a fourth edition of the Cardel Stamps Camp. An online draw yielded the participants, who were split into five teams of 15 fantasy campers. Each group was joined by 11 Stampeders and attempted to raise money for charity. The winning team also captured the ultimate prize — part two of Stamps Camp.

Fantasy Camp players were put through drills and football stations all afternoon before Team Grey — captained by Randy Chevrier — emerged victorious and raised $5,000 for Kids Up Front. The 15 winning campers will come down to McMahon Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 to rejoin their Team Grey Stampeders teammates and take part in drills.

“I am really proud and we were able to raise $5,000 for Kids Up Front,” said Chevrier. “It is pretty special to give kids a chance to go to concerts and sporting events they wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to go to.”

Jeremaine Copeland and his Team Blue finished second in the competition and raised $4,000 for School Supplies for Kids.

Team Red and captain Henry Burris were raising money for Big Brothers and Sisters of Calgary (BBS), while Sandro DeAngelis led Team Black and Dreams Take Flight. Their teams tied and each won $2,500 for their charities.

Team White, led by Rob Cote, finished fifth and raised $1,000 for Hospice Calgary. Through this prize money, a total donation of $15,000 was given on behalf of Cardel Homes.

The day ended with a formal autograph signing by Stamps players at Cardel Place.

Phase 2 - Oct. 12, 2008

In addition to the 15 fantasy campers who ran around McMahon Stadium on Oct. 12, five more fans had the opportunity to take part in the second phase of Cardel Stamps Camp. These 20 fans signed an official contract, had a press release written about the signing and release, picked up their Stamps gear and then took part in warm-up and football drills on the turf at McMahon Stadium.
