PRESIDENT'S LUNCHEON

On May 14, 2009, the Calgary Stampeders formally honoured quarterback Henry Burris as the recipient of the 2008 Presidents’ Ring. The official ceremony took place downtown at the TELUS Convention Centre as part of the annual President’s Luncheon Presented by Global Calgary.
The Presidents’ Ring has been presented annually since 1967 t
o the Stampeders player who best demonstrates excellence on and off the field. Burris’ teammates selected him based on his in-game contributions, leadership, inspiration and motivational skills.
This is the second year in a row Burris has won the Presidents’ Ring. He is the 27th player to win the award and just the fourth to win back-to-back. Danny Barrett (1989 and 1990), Alondra Johnson (2001 and 2002) and Jay McNeil (2005 and 2006) were the other consecutive winners.
Burris led the Stamps to a Grey Cup victory this past season and he was the most valuable player of the championship game.
He also was the West Division nominee as the Canadian Football League’s most outstanding player after he helped guide Calgary to a 13-5 regular-season record. He established career highs in passing yards (5,094), touchdown passes (39), completion percentage (64.5) and quarterback rating (103.8) while leading a young team to the title.
