PRESIDENT'S LUNCHEON
2008 President’s Luncheon Presented by Global Calgary
Henry Burris was awarded the 41st Annual Presidents’ Ring on Wednesday, May 7 at the TELUS Convention Centre.
The presentation took place at the President’s Luncheon which was sponsored by Global Calgary and the Calgary Stampeders Football Club.
The Presidents’ Ring is awarded to the player, who best demonstrates leadership, superior performance and inspiration as chosen by his teammates.
Burris was recognized for his work during the 2007 CFL season and became only the fourth quarterback to be honoured.
“I’m speechless about what it means to me and I just want to be able to continue to work hard for my teammates and just show them that I’ll always remember this,” said Burris.
Henry Burris is entering his ninth season in the Canadian Football League and sixth as a member of the Calgary Stampeders.
He arrived in the CFL in 1997 out of Temple University and spent three seasons in Red and White before football travels took him to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a two-year stint in the National Football League and a season in NFL-Europe.
Since returning to the Stamps as a free agent in February of 2005, Henry has steadily grown into the team leader and elite quarterback he is today. In 2007, he led the CFL with 34 touchdown passes and a 102.0 quarterback rating. His 4,279 passing yards, 471 pass attempts and 285 completions were among the league leaders and his running ability terrorized opponents. He is solidly entrenched as one of the league's star players and in the prime of his career.
Last season also saw Burris assert himself as the emotional leader of the Stampeders. His stellar play and determination carried a young football club through good times and bad. Henry, his wife Nicole and son Armand live in Calgary year round. Henry works with Peak Energy Service Trust and represents the Stamps in numerous community initiatives. In addition, he recently held his third annual Henry Burris All-Star Weekend, in support of Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
