Nothing displays true Canadian pride like the CFL athletes who play for the love of the sport.  Every die-hard fan has a player favorite and that’s why every year, Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whisky, the official spirit of the CFL, calls upon the fans to duke it by voting for their player of choice.  Launched on July 24, 2008, the annual Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player award gives CFL fans a chance to give their favorite players recognition for their hard work both on and off the field. The contest, sponsored by William Grant & Sons Distillers Ltd., makers of Gibson’s Finest Canadian Whisky, and the Canadian Football League, runs until October 17, 2008.

But there’s more! When fans register to vote online, they are automatically entered into Grand Prize and weekly draws. The Grand Prize winner receives a three-night trip for four to the 2008 Grey Cup game. Valued at approximately $10,000 (Cdn), the prize includes a round trip flight to Monteral, three night accommodations, four tickets to the 2008 Grey Cup game and select Grey Cup Festival events, and four Grey Cup game clothing packages. There will also be a random draw for fifteen weekly prizes consisting of Gibson's Finest Canadian Player sweatshirts.

Gibson's Finest Canadian Player candidates include: Jason Clermont (B.C. Lions); Jesse Lumsden (Hamilton Tiger-Cats); Micheal O’Shea (Toronto Argonauts); Matt Sheridan (Winnipeg Blue Bombers); Sandro DeAngelis (Calgary Stampeders); Gene Makowsky (Saskatchewan Roughriders); Mathieu Bertrand (Edmonton Eskimos); and Matthieu Proulx (Montreal Alouettes). Fans can also nominate their own favourite player, if he does not already appear on the list.

CFL fans are asked to enter their votes for their Gibson's Finest Canadian Player online, by visiting www.cfl.ca. The contest ends October 17 and the winner of the Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player 2008, will be announced during Grey Cup week. A donation of $10,000 (Cdn) will also be made to the winning player’s charity of choice, and the player himself will receive a trophy to mark the honor.
