When you play against Edmonton, we don’t know what kind of quarterback we’re getting — a runner or a pocket passer. But both Ricky Ray and Jared Zabransky bring a lot of threats to the game. Zabransky can bring you to the outside and he’s got a decent arm on him. And Ricky? He’s the Mechanic, always.

Browner: Focused on the "W"

Some people have been making a deal about some of the things that happened between us and the Eskimos but that isn’t anything we’ve been thinking about. We’re thinking about a “W” and that’s it, that’s all.

People got fined for what happened in that game and we’re not looking to catch any more fines. We’ve got one goal at the end of the year and that’s to get to the Grey Cup.

Insider: Labour Day tradition

There’s a lot of Labour Day history between the Stampeders and Eskimos, but there’s more to the Red and White’s tradition on the September holiday than the rivalry with their provincial rivals.

As a matter of fact, the first Labour Day game was the first regular-season contest the Stampeders ever played. The historic Sept. 2, 1946, game was against the Regina Roughriders at Calgary’s Mewata Stadium and the Stamps won 9-0.

I just can’t wait to play another Labour Day Classic. I’ve been on Edmonton’s side and now I get the chance to play for Calgary.

There’s no better place to play than Alberta and, as a Stampeder, I’m so thrilled with how the season is going and how the team has brought me in and really opened its arms to me as a player.

The ENMAX Labour Day Classic is almost here and I can’t wait for yet another gut-wrenching game.

This game is always packed full of excitement as we battle our rival team, the Edmonton Eskimos. As if this Battle of Alberta wasn't exciting enough, the Edmonton cheer team will be accompanying the Eskimos and we will also be releasing our 2011 Outriders Calendar.

Alabama, my alma mater, is the defending national champion and they’re ranked No. 1 in the pre-season polls. All I can say is that it feels good to be an alumni right now.

A lot of people ask why Alabama has an elephant logo when the team is called the Crimson Tide. I think it comes from back in the day when we were beating up on people so bad, one of the media guys said the other teams were getting rolled on like a crimson tide of elephants or something like that.

Dr. Vince Murphy, who was associated with the Calgary Stampeders for more than a half-century, passed away on Aug. 23. He was 87.

You may have noticed some of the defensive linemen doing this thing after a big play that looks like one guy trying to chop down the other with an imaginary axe. It stems from Robede because he’s from Quebec up in the mountains up there and he does the maple thing with the wood.

But ’Binjo totally messed it up in that one game because Robede was chopping him down and ’Binjo was supposed to fall like a tree. But if ’Binjo falls, he may not get back up so I think that’s why he just stayed up. He was probably just tired because we’re always tired. I think it’s a prerequisite if you’re a D-lineman — you’ve got to be tired.

Chevrier: Make a play when you can

On that recovery of the BC fumble after the missed field goal at the start of Friday’s game in Vancouver, all I can say is that every once in a while, every old, blind dog finds a bone. That’s pretty much what happened on that play.

I was covering on a field goal, like they teach us to do every time. What’s funny is that I looked to my left because I thought I was going to get smoked by one of their guys and when I saw he wasn’t coming, I put my eyes back on the returner and the ball was right in front of me and I just jumped on it.

We played pretty good but still didn’t play Calgary Stampeders football. We did good enough to win. We had a lot of good things out there and we had some bad things out there. But a win is a win and that’s what we’re happy about.

I tell you what though, it feels real good to be back in a rhythm. I’ll do whatever it takes to help this team win. Whether it’s only making 10 catches or three catches or working as a decoy all game; as long as we come up with a ‘W.’

The Calgary Stampeders have picked up right where they left off before the bye week as they defeated the BC Lions 48-35 at Vancouver’s Empire Field on Friday.

The win is the Stampeders’ fifth in a row as West Division-leading Calgary improves to 7-1. Meanwhile, the Lions (1-7) have dropped seven games in a row and have lost eight straight regular-season games against the Stampeders over the past three years.

For the second time in less than three weeks, the Stampeders are making the trip to Vancouver's Empire Field to take on the BC Lions. Kickoff at 8:30 p.m. MDT.

Calgary (6-1) is looking for a fifth consecutive victory as the Stamps look to maintain sole possession of first place in the West Division. The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-2) face the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday.

It was a good bye week, even though I didn’t do much. I just stayed at home and tried to get my legs rested.

Now it’s back to BC and going up against Geroy and his boys. You know, they bring a lot of different looks to the table. They do a lot of different formations and use different personnel. You always have to be intelligent and alert to see who’s in the game. And they’ve got dangerous backs, too, so there are a lot of different things in this game we have to pay attention to.

As I mentioned the other day to reporters, this is as good as I’ve ever felt at this time of the season. I’ve been fortunate and blessed to not have any major nicks or muscle aches or anything like that. Yeah, the body just feels good.

Not on the football field, mind you, although the Calgary Stampeders hybrid linebacker/defensive back seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder this season, making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks and receivers.

Having played junior football in Victoria, it’s always fun to play a game in Vancouver. It’s still across the pond a little bit, but it always seems that someone I know from Victoria comes out for the game.

I love the West Coast and I always go see the water when I’m there. It makes me feel nostalgic.
