CANADA DAY KICKOFF LAUNCHES 2010 SEASON
The Calgary Stampeders will begin their 2010 campaign with the Canada Day Kickoff on Thursday, July 1 at 8 p.m. against the Toronto Argonauts at McMahon Stadium.
"The 2010 CFL Schedule offers Stamps fans great opportunities to see their team,” said Stampeders’ president/COO Lyle Bauer. “With the traditional rivalries in the West to the hosting of revamped East Division teams, 2010 will be a great year to be wearing Red and White."
"In addition to an exciting schedule we are also looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of McMahon Stadium and many other great moments in Stampeders history."
The Stamps’ 2010 schedule will include four meetings with the BC Lions, three matchups with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and three games against the provincial-rival Edmonton Eskimos, including the Labour Day Classic at McMahon on Sept. 6.
“The start of the 2010 schedule will be a great challenge and barometer for our team,” said head coach/general manager John Hufnagel. “Playing three games in 13 days with an eastern road trip included will be a test of this team’s maturity and mental toughness. Eight of the next nine games are versus West Division opponents and our performance during this stretch will have a large impact on our eventual standing in the division.”
“Though training camp is still a few months away, with the release of the 2010 CFL schedule and the work being done at McMahon Stadium, everyone is starting to get excited about getting back on the field.”
The Stamps face the defending Grey Cup champions in back-to-back weeks beginning in Calgary on Oct. 1 and wrapping up with a Thanksgiving Day meeting on Oct. 11 in Montreal.
