Winter fun was the theme of the Calgary Stampeders' community activities over the past seven days.devitt_forand_spot.jpg

First off, there was Wednesday's Calgary Corporate Challenge Human Bonspiel in downtown Calgary at the Olympic Plaza. The event was quite a sight to behold as a number of celebrity and media teams — including the Red and White — acted as human curling stones by sliding down the ice on inner tubes.

Not only was the event a ton of fun, the Stampeders — represented by Wes Lysack, Barrick Nealy, Tim O'Neill and Rob Cote — actually won the competition. But far more importantly, RecapI_100201.jpg$1,600 was raised for KidSport, the organization and Stampeders community partner dedicated to removing the financial obstacles that keep some youngsters from participating in sports.

In keeping with the winter theme, punter Burke Dales was in Okotoks on Friday for the Canada Gets Active Winter Kickoff.

The program is a pilot project by the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association and the main objective is to increase physical activity involvement of Canadian children by increasing their access to and participation in community recreation facilities.

Earlier in the week, Dales was at the Calgary Learning Centre to help promote the centre's Literacy Day.

Not only did Dales read the book Mortimer to students from Dr. Oakley School, he even sang a song with the kids.

On Thursday. the Stampeders were honoured to take part in the YYC4Haiti fundraiser at Flames Central. The city's sports teams donated items for silent auction and the Stampeders goodies included a game-worn Henry Burris jersey and a four-person Ultimate Fan Package for a 2010 game at McMahon Stadium.
