Lewis: Looking for consistency

July 26, 2010

Our defence played great against the Riders on Saturday. When we step on the field and see our defence play like that, we know we have to capitalize.

Early in the second half, Hank went up top to Romby and Romby, with great speed, caught a post route for a touchdown and that seemed like it changed the whole momentum of the game. We kind of knew right there that, “Hey, this is our game.”Lewis_100611.jpg

We knew we had moved the ball well the first couple of drives. We know we can do it, we just have to be consistent. Everybody has to be consistent in their assignments. It was good to see us move the ball so well and put up over 500 yards of offence.

We knew we were two of the top offences going into this game, so we just wanted to go out and prove we were the best offence.

I don’t think there was much made in the locker-room about supposed revenge for what happened last year against Saskatchewan. I think we kind of put last year behind us. We’re a different team than we were last year, so tried to put that behind us and go out and focus on each game like a new day and good victories. We feel like we can beat any team we line up against as long as we don’t turn the ball over and the defence plays sound.

I did realize on Saturday that I managed to pass Travis Moore for third place on the Stampeders’ receptions list. It always feels good to move up because you respect everybody who’s played before you. To do it and to be with one team this long and to make this much of an impact, it’s a great feeling.

I was sitting right by those guys in the green body suits. Loved it when you came up to them after your touchdown and blew them a kiss. That was priceless!
