BURRIS: People have doubted us

August 23, 2008

This was exactly what we thought it was going to be — a war, a 60-minute war. We knew we were going to get their best tonight and they came out and played their tails off. They’ve been a good team and always will be a good team. The difference tonight was that, despite whatever situation came up, we continued to fight through adversity and took advantage of some opportunities.

There were some situations tonight where we moved the ball, but didn’t put the ball in the end zone. We thought coming in that we needed to score seven points instead of settling for three, because you know they’re going to score. With that said, I thought we showed maturity and even after the interception, we were able to come back get a field goal, then a touchdown and then it just continued from there.

We came out fast and then it slowed a little, but I thought we were able to move the ball every drive except for a couple. And we knew there were opportunities to continue drives. On the first drive, the offensive line made some huge blocks, Joffrey hit the hole hard and made a great cut and that got the ball rolling for us.

To win a game on the road in the West is sweet. To win in Edmonton, Saskatchewan or B.C. is tough and it’s just good for this team to get the victory tonight. This team is so young that most of the guys probably don’t even realize the history between these clubs, but we redeemed ourselves a little because we haven’t won much against these guys since I’ve been back here.

A lot of people have doubted us and have been saying, “we can’t do this, we can’t do that,” but as long as we continue to go out there and perform like we can, we really don’t care what they say.

Getting the game ball was funny. I was sitting here thinking about who I was going to give the ball to and was actually about to ask guys who we should give it to, when Dave (Dickenson) took it from me. I usually like to give it to some of the players who don’t necessarily get the spotlight or the attention that say a quarterback does. I actually was going to give it to him, for all of his help and with it being such a big win for him coming back here. It was definitely special to get it from him to say the least.

Now I’m going to get with the family and some of the guys and head over to the Italian Kitchen. We’ll get a bunch of food, some wine and enjoy the victory.

Let the doubters doubt, Hank, while you guys get it done and have the last laugh! Congrats on the HUGE win tonight. I literally jumped out of my seat when you connected with Ralph on that TD. Labinjo and Hughes were monsters out there, and it was cool of you to show some confidence in Williams on some big plays. But what I loved seeing the most, was you bouncing back from mistakes and facing adversity and getting the job done like most of us know you can. Kudos to our awesome Defence too, for coming up big when it mattered most. Now bring on the Eskies! Go Stamps!

Well done boys! It was a great game to watch and the team is starting to show the maturity it will need if the Grey Cup is to become a realistic achievement. Henry, you're continuing to show some good decision making out there and it shows, as we are always in the game this year, rather than getting killed by needless turnovers (you too Joffrey). Really great to see us using Teyo Johnson more, I feel he has HUGE potential in our offence. Bring on Edmonton and take NO prisoners!

Henry, Congratulations on a good game.there is still a long way to go till the playoffs begin, but I see signs of maturity which you will need down the road. I am happy to see that the receivers have cut down tremendously on going offsides with their running starts. What I personally would like to see is you taking off some more with the fotball and running. We all know you have a great arm but when you decide to run it puts such great pressure on opposing defences that they become literally ineffective. Keep up the good work and go get those pesky eskies.
