OUTRIDERS BLOG
Kendra: Reflections on 2011
December 28, 2011
The end of the CFL football season means the end of our season as well.
This was my first year as an Outrider and let me tell you Stamps fans that it has been an amazing year. At first, I was overwhelmed trying to learn new dances, cheers and football terms but with the help of all the amazing vets on the team, I was confident in no time.
Michelle: Our Grey Cup trip
December 2, 2011
I would like to begin by saying a big “thank you” to the fans for their support this season. On behalf of the Outriders, we truly appreciate it and would not make it to Grey Cup without you.
As many of you know, we sell our calendars every year to fundraise for our trip to Grey Cup. So thank you to those who purchased the 2012 Outriders calendar — without you our trip would not have been possible.
Kim: Heading to Vancouver!
November 22, 2011
Oh hey, Stamps fans!
As you all know, it is that time of the year again — Grey Cup!
My lovely friend Petra wrote about our playoff experience and while we were all looking forward to cheering on the Red and White in the championship game, our season isn’t over quite yet.
Petra: A playoff road trip
November 15, 2011
Everyone knows that playoffs are the most exciting time of the season.
Surprisingly, there was a three-way tie in the West Division between Calgary, Edmonton and BC. Because of how things played out this season, BC snagged first place with Edmonton second. Being in third place meant no home playoff games for the Stampeders.
Corinne: It's playoff time
November 9, 2011
Hey Stamps fans, it’s playoff time!
What an exciting season it has been! With a three-way tie in the West, this past weekend was both exciting and stressful for CFL fans everywhere. Every game had meaning for the overall standings and so we found ourselves cheering for teams like Saskatchewan and Montreal, which felt somewhat unusual.
Stephanie: It's in you to give!
October 31, 2011
The season is quickly coming to an end.
As this is my first year on the team, I've had the opportunity to be part of so many community and charity events. This last experience with the team I must say will be one of the best and has changed me for life!
Jessica: A blast from the past
October 25, 2011
Oct. 21 was an incredibly special game, not just for the current Outriders but for the Stamps cheerleaders of the past 40 years as well.
We called out to all Outriders alumni to join us for the PinkPower game halftime show where we planned to perform a fun and very pink dance to raise breast cancer awareness. The experience was a complete blast (from the past)!
Ashley: The importance of fitness
October 18, 2011
Hey Stamps Fans!
This year, the Outriders have really stepped up our fitness and nutrition and I want to share what we do to keep healthy.
We are athletes. We work hard all season conditioning our bodies to maintain high energy levels throughout a three-hour football game.
Maddie: Think Pink!
October 12, 2011
Whenever you catch a guy wearing pink, they always say “real men wear pink.” This is very true.
If you didn’t already know, Oct. 21 is a very, very special game. It’s the Stampeders’ fourth annual PinkPower event, with the Stampeders raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Five dollars from every ticket sold through a special promo will go to research. Also, pink gear will be available for sale at the game for all you fans to sport and show your pink pride!
Siara: What a trip!
September 30, 2011
This season, the Outriders were given the exciting opportunity to head out east to support the Calgary Stampeders in an away game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
This away game, however, was hosted much farther east than Hamilton. Instead, Moncton, N.B., was our destination to participate in the second Touchdown Atlantic.
Having never been to the Maritimes, I didn’t really know what to expect but it was a part of Canada I had always wanted to visit.
Kaylea: On the road for revenge
September 12, 2011
What a great weekend for Stamps fans everywhere! The Outriders had the opportunity to travel up to Edmonton Friday and cheer on the Stamps as they took the win.
Game day started bright and early for the Outriders as we loaded up the bus and put Calgary in the rearview mirror with our sights set on rematch revenge in Edmonton.
Brynne: Preparing for Game Day
September 6, 2011
Hey Stamps Fans!
Someone asked me the other day: “What is a game like for you? How do you prepare for it?”
The answer is simple — we work hard.
During the last practice before the game, we spend the full three hours cleaning up our dances, cheers and sideline dances to make them look as spotless and perfect as we can.
Shelby: Anxious for Labour Day Classic
August 29, 2011
Labour Day is fast approaching and I cannot begin to explain how excited I am. This is my very first Labour Day as an Outrider!
This year, our 2012 Outrider Calendar release party will be during the Pre-Game Bash on Sept. 5. This is your first chance to get your 2012 Outrider Calendar! All of us girls will be attending the release party from 11:30a.m. to 1:30pm. For only $15, you’ll be able to purchase your calendar.
Dana: Road games at Grey Eagle!
August 23, 2011
One of my favourite parts about football season (aside from cheering on the Stamps from the sidelines at every home game) is the opportunity to gather with family and friends and watch the Stampeders play on the road!
Whether it’s in a basement, a bar/casino or in your own living room, it’s a great chance to bond with others and enjoy football in a different setting. Ever since I was a kid, my family has been really into football and I can proudly say I have never missed an entire game.
Ashlee B.: Behind the scenes of calendar shoot
August 16, 2011
Hey Stamps fans!
Sadly, summer is quickly coming to a close. But along with the fall comes the anticipation for the release of the Outriders’ next calendar!
As much as the calendar means to each one of us girls, this year’s is particularly significant to me. This is because, other than just finding an outfit and having my picture taken for one of the months, I got to help out our photographer Mark Mennie with all the other behind-the-scene things that go into the making of the calendar.
Courtney: Fabulous Little Miss Outriders
August 9, 2011
Hey Stamps Fans!
What a fantastic week all us Outriders had! This past week, girls aged 5-17 had the opportunity to take part in a dance/cheer camp called Little Miss Outrider. Over the span of four evenings, we Outriders taught the girls a cheer, a dance and how to work it on the field.
Barbra: ACH is a special place
July 26, 2011
When asked “What is your favorite promotional event as an Outrider?” I always respond “The Alberta Children’s Hospital pre-game visit.”
Why? Let me tell you . . .
During the past two years as an Outrider, I have attended about 12 of these events. I wait in anticipation of going and it’s usually the main topic of conversation at my dinner table a few days prior to going.
Bailee: Fun at the Stampede parade
July 15, 2011
The Calgary Stampede Parade is definitely one of my favourite events to attend as an Outrider.
I remember going every year as a kid with my family and having it be the perfect kickoff to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. The last couple years that I’ve gone as an Outrider have been even more surreal, getting to see all the fans and actually walking the parade!
Janis: Debut was a great experience
June 16, 2011
It was such an amazing feeling to walk on the field for the first time this season.
For the past week or so, anticipation has been building and everyone was so excited to show off everything that we have been working hard on — new dances and our new uniforms!
There were a million thoughts running through my mind and I felt like I was forgetting something, maybe I wouldn't know exactly what to do.
Kyla: Fanfest was a blast!
May 30, 2011
Saturday marked the start of the Stampeders season with one of my favorite Stampeder events — Fanfest.
We were not going to let a little wet weather stop us this year, so the festivities were moved indoors to the Viper Dome. I think it is safe to say that a great time was had by all.
The day started with a free pancake breakfast. If you looked back to the grills, you could see some of the Outriders flipping pancakes like pros. After the breakfast, we all headed down to the Viper Dome.
Julia: Preparing for the new season
May 25, 2011
The 2011 Calgary Stampeders season is approaching very quickly. It seems like just yesterday the Stampeders were playing in the playoffs.
Not only do the football players have to get ready for the season, the Calgary Stampeders Outriders need to be picked and prepared before the pre-season game on June 15. We have recently just finished the audition process.
Shanda: It was worth the pain!
May 18, 2011
Hi Stamps Fans,
I was so sore that I could hardly get out of bed the morning after the Perfect Pro Dance weekend, but it was SO worth it. Three incredible choreographers, nine amazing dances and 12 (or more!) hours of dancing later, one of the best experiences I have had as a dancer was over.
Stacy: Final auditions on Saturday
April 14, 2011
Hi Stampeders Fans!
I have to say, I cannot believe how fast the last few weeks have gone by. The Calgary Stampeder Outriders training camp has been such a great experience for all involved.
I have had such an amazing time getting to know these girls a little better and seeing everything they have to offer.
Stacy: Just relax and have fun
March 24, 2011
Preliminary auditions for the 2011 Calgary Stampeder Outriders Dance Team are right around the corner.
I know a lot of girls who are very eager and have been looking forward to this day for quite some time. I know that this day is a whirlwind of excitement, anticipation, emotions and energy, and this year will be not be any different. There are a number of changes that have happened this year already, so I felt explaining the process may help calm some nerves so any girls auditioning may just relax and have fun.
Siara: A memorable year
January 5, 2011
The Outriders’ 2010 season was incredible!
Each CFL season begins with auditions early in the year for the Calgary Stampeder Outriders. Although somewhat nerve-racking, it was exciting to see the 2010 Outriders team take shape. This year, our final auditions were at Flames Central where our friends, family and even you were welcome to join us. Once our 2010 Outriders team of 30 was finalized, it was time to get to work with new choreography, cheers, formations, uniform fittings and photo shoots.
