Michelle H.: What a great season!

December 22, 2009

Another season has come and gone.

This past year has gone by so fast. It didn’t seem like too long ago we were anticipating the first home game. I can’t believe in three short months we will be holding auditions for the 2010 Calgary Stampeder Outriders.

Camille: The cheer extravaganza

November 28, 2009

Camille.jpgHey Stamps Fans!

It's that exciting time of the year again . . . GREY CUP!

For myself, being a rookie, this of course is my first time and I'm extremely excited about all the events that are taking place here in our hometown. Our days are jammed pack full of events but without a doubt we are having a blast!

Nicola: It was still a great trip

November 23, 2009

Hey Stamps Fans,

Nicola_091123.jpgThe Outriders just got back from our trip to Regina to help cheer on the Stampeders in the Western Final and we had an amazing time. The bus ride up to Regina was a very exciting one.

Even though we boarded the bus on Saturday at midnight, everyone was pumped up to cheer on the Stamps at Mosaic Stadium. As a fourth-year veteran of the Calgary Stampeder Outriders, I’ve never had the opportunity to take a road trip to cheer on the Stamps at the Western Finals. It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget.

As soon as we arrived in Regina Sunday morning, our bus full of anxious Outriders headed to Gold’s Gym so we could get ready for the game.

Samantha: "Outriders calandars, $10"

October 20, 2009

Samantha_091020.jpg“Outrider Calendars, $10!” This is a phrase I learned quickly in my first year on the team. Now in my fourth season, I’ve come to love the time for calendar sales rolls around.

For those of you who don’t know, the Outriders put together a calendar each year to raise funds to get to Grey Cup. This calendar is a fun and exciting experience for the whole team. I remember my first year being nervous and terrified to unveil it to the fans, much the same as rookies feel each year, but now instead I feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment upon completion.

Ceilynn: There's no life like it

October 9, 2009

Ceilynn_091009.jpgSomeone once asked me “Why do you like being a cheerleader?” to which I responded with a lengthy and animated 20-minute explanation of how incredible it really is.

It is not uncommon to hear negative stereotypes about the cheerleaders but in my personal experiences, I found these assumptions to be false. The Calgary Stampeder Outriders are a group of intelligent, beautiful, strong, classy women who demonstrate a love of dance and a devotion to the Calgary community and the Stampeders team.

Amy: What a trip!

September 15, 2009

amy090915.jpgHey Stamps fans!

We just got back from our road trip to Edmonton to cheer on the Stamps at the Labour Day game rematch against the Edmonton Eskimos and I had a blast!

Being a rookie on the team, I was very nervous for the Battle of Alberta, Labour Day Classic rematch in Edmonton and was wondering how everything would turn out.

Amany: Road trip!

September 11, 2009

amany090911.jpgHello Stamps fans, hope you’re all doing fantastic!

I’m sitting here writing this blog from a computer at Mount Royal University and I can’t help but become completely overwhelmed by the immense feeling of excitement as the Calgary Stampeders and the Calgary Stampeder Outriders gear up for a road trip to Edmonton against the Eskimos in a Labor Day rematch tonight.

This past Labour Day was definitely a memorable one for me. I had always dreamt about becoming a Stamps cheerleader since the very first time my Dad took me to a live Stamps CFL game when I was a young girl.

Corinne: Circle this date

August 27, 2009

090827Corinne.jpgHey Stamps fans!

I am so excited to be the one to invite you all to the release of our 2010 Outrider Calendar this Friday at Schanks North!

Being a rookie, it has been such an amazing experience being a part of a professional photo shoot for this calendar. The hair, the makeup, the lights . . . everything was all so new and exciting and so much fun to be a part of. After all of the shots were taken, Kelli Labonte and photographer Mark Mennie had the tough job of picking just the right ones to be placed in the calendar. I can’t lie to you — we did get a sneak peak at the pictures and I must say it’s going to be a good one!

Michelle S.: Say "Cheese!"

August 4, 2009

090804michelleS250.jpgHey Stamps fans!

I hope you are getting excited for the release of the Outriders Calendar because we sure are.

Many people may not know how much hard work and planning goes into our calendar before we even start shooting. Our coach first has to decide on some photo themes. Then she matches every girl to the theme she thinks suits them best. The theme of our shot helps determine location of the shot, outfit, hairstyle, makeup etc. It is up to each girl to pick out her own outfit. This is super fun because we get a chance to be creative but we are also able to find something we feel most comfortable in.

STACY R.: Let's hear for it the girls!

July 30, 2009

090729stacyR.jpgHi Stamps Fans!

This is Stacy R. here to fill you in on a fun upcoming event with the Calgary Stampeder Outriders!

As many of you are aware from reading our blogs here at Stampeders.com or seeing us at various promotions around the city, the Outriders are very involved in the community and love to share our time helping fellow Calgarians.

KIM: I love a parade!

July 10, 2009

090710kim.jpgHey Stamps Fans!

I just wanted to say how amazing it was to see so many of you out on the streets for the Calgary Stampede Parade.

As a rookie, I was thrilled to get to be involved in the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. What made the day even more special to me was the fact that there were tons of proud Stamps fans cheering from the sides!

TARALYN: A life-changing event

June 29, 2009

090629-Taralyn.jpgOne thing I never thought about doing is donating blood. But on June 18, we were given the opportunity to change that.

A group of us walked into the Canadian Blood Service building, rolled up our sleeve and donated blood. July is the month blood is needed the most, so the Outriders are challenging the entire city to meet or exceed the Calgary Canadian Blood Services need for donors this month. Our team kicked off the challenge with enthusiasm and pride that we were able to get involved in the community in such a life-altering way.

BRETTAINY: A great day

June 29, 2009

090629-Brettainy.jpgHi Stamps Fans,

Outrider Brettainy here checking in and letting you what some of us girls have been up to in our time off the field!

Although all of us cheerleaders love performing for the fans and cheering on our Stamps, one of the most rewarding parts of our job is our community involvement. Being an Outrider allows me to volunteer for various organizations that really make a difference in the Calgary community.

VICTORIA: Dream come true

June 19, 2009

_MMP2618_Victoria.jpgFrom participating in ballet at a community hall when I was 5 years old, to competing at national competitions as an adolescent, to now instructing and choreographing at a rapidly-growing competitive dance studio, I have always dreamt about becoming a Calgary Stampeder Outrider!

I have attended countless Stamps games throughout my life. Screaming at every touchdown, enjoying Quick Six’s sprints and attempting to catch the mini-footballs was one thing for me; but the real delight I got out of every game was watching the Outriders bust a move!

ASHLEY: Gotta love Fanfest!

June 19, 2009

_MMP1877_Ashley.jpgOne of the events I look forward to most being an Outrider is Fanfest. Every year, the Outriders get to be a part of it and it's a great opportunity to meet our fans. We released our new 2009 Outriders poster and it's a great way to kick off the season.

I had so much fun this year. The Calgary Grey Cup Committee put on a free pancake breakfast that was done in true Calgary style. We took pictures with the Grey Cup and fans, signed autographs and took part in all of the activities.

ALISON: Practice makes perfect

June 19, 2009

_MMP1859_Alison.jpgThis year our team of 30 consists of 13 rookies and 17 returning vets. We’ve been practising since mid-April – getting a great line-up of dances ready to go and perfecting our cheers and sideline dances.

We practice for three hours, twice a week, starting with a workout or across the floor, cleaning dances, and learning new cheers and extraneous. With game day quickly approaching we’ve also been getting our rookies up to speed on game day logistics and working on our tunneling.
