Calgary selected Phillips in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft and he signed on May 15, 2007.

2012

Phillips was part of the Stamps’ defensive line rotation and special-teams units in eight games before suffering a season-ending injury in a Sept. 14 contest against Winnipeg. Before the injury, he recorded five tackles, four special-teams tackles and one pass knockdown. He had three tackled and a special-teams tackle on Sept. 7 against Edmonton.

2011

In his fifth season, Phillips played in all 18 regular-season games as well as the West semifinal, starting all but three games at defensive end. In one of his finest seasons, Phillips tallied career-highs with 31 tackles and two tackles for loss. He also added one sack, one pass knockdown, forced one fumble and recovered another. He proved his value on special-teams with a fourth consecutive double-digit tackle season, tallying 12 special-teams tackles, fourth most on the team. Against BC on Sept. 17, Phillips recorded a team-high five tackles and a pass knockdown

2010

Phillips appeared in 15 regular-season games and was a starter at defensive end for the West final. He missed three August contests due to an injury but returned to the lineup in time for the Labour Day Classic against Edmonton. That game was the 50th of his CFL and Stampeders career. In addition to being part of the Stamps rotation on the defensive line, Phillips was a key contributor on special teams and was tied for fourth on the club with 14 special-teams tackles. He also contributed five defensive tackles and one pass knockdown on the season.

College

As a four-year (2003-06) Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk, Phillips played in 21 regular-season games and seven playoff matches, including a victory in the 2005 Vanier Cup. He was named an OUA second team all-star in 2004. In his fourth season, he was selected a first team conference all-star and a CIS second-team all-Canadian. He accumulated a career total of 47.5 tackles, 11.5 sacks and three knockdowns.

Notable

Phillips is the Stampeders player representative to the Stampeders’ Every Yard Counts program with the Alberta Children’s Hospital, as well as a frequent guest coach with the Timbits Football Program. In his senior year at Wilfrid Laurier, he played defensive end, linebacker and free safety. He holds the NCAFA record for interceptions in a season with 11 as a high-school senior.
