Calgary signed West as a free agent on May 7, 2012. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2008 by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. West has also been a member of the New Orleans Saints and St. Louis Rams of the NFL and was drafted by the California Redwoods of the United Football League in 2009.

College

West played four seasons at Texas-El Paso, hauling in 93 receptions for 1,540 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a senior, he was named an honorable mention All-Conference USA pick after recording 41 receptions for 734 yards and six touchdowns in 2007. West led his team in yards per catch (18.4) as a junior and had over 50 yards of receiving five times that season. He played all 12 games as a sophomore and was UTEP’s leading receiver in the GMAC Bowl versus Toledo with 88 yards on six catches. Prior to a redshirt season in 2004, West played in nine games during his freshmen season in 2003, recording six receptions for 64 yards.

West played football at Garland Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Tex. He was named First-Team All-District 10-5A as a high school senior and was also named special teams MVP. West had 48 catches for 430 yards and four touchdowns in his senior season and added two kickoff return touchdowns, including a 98-yard runback. West was also a track and field athlete at Lakeview Centennial. His cousin Doug West and uncle Mark West played in the NBA. West’s brother Tracy Thorpe is a free agent pitcher who was a pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. West was a multidisciplinary studies major in college.
