Pro path
Calgary signed Smith as a free agent on May 20, 2008. He attended a mini-camp with the NFL’s Detroit Lions before joining the Arena League’s San Jose SaberCats in 2007.
2009
Smith suffered a knee injury during the pre-season and did not see any regular-season action.
2008
In his first season with the Stamps, Smith started 17 games including the West final and Grey Cup. He was fifth on the team in tackles with 56 and also recorded two forced fumbles, five special-teams tackles, six pass knockdowns and two tackles for loss. He recorded his first career sack on July 3 against Edmonton and then added another on July 17 against Hamilton, making him the first Stamps defensive back to record a multi-sack season since 2005. Smith led the team with seven tackles against Hamilton on July 17. He added seven tackles in his first career post-season game against BC on Nov. 15 before recording four more tackles in the Grey Cup.
2007
Smith played with the Arena Football League’s San Jose SaberCats, where he was reunited with his former head coach at Sacramento State, Darren Arbet.

College
Smith led Sacramento State with three interceptions in 2005. He tallied 44 tackles, two sacks and seven pass breakups in just four games with the Hornets in 2004. He attended Sacramento State after transferring from Saint Mary’s, which disbanded its football program following the 2003 season.
Notable
Smith is an active player in the community, attending local events and participating in the Every Yard Counts program. Smith attended Oakland’s McClymonds High School, where he lettered in football, track and basketball. He was a first team all-league and all-city defensive back as a senior.
