The Stampeders are committed to supporting amateur football in Cagary and Southern Alberta, and that commitment includes their involvement with the Timbits Football Program in partnership with Tim Hortons.
Linebacker Juwan Simpson is the official player rep for the Timbits program.
"It's important for the Stampeders to recognize the support amateur football provides because it helps kids recognize their talent and develop their skills at an early age, which is vital to their overall growth," said Simpson. "Playing football at this stage develops character and — who knows? — it may one day inspire them to play professionally."
Thanks to Tim Hortons, each child in the Timbits program has the opportunity to play under the big lights at McMahon Stadium. Select teams are chosen to play before and at halftime of a Stampeders home game.
The Timbits Minor Sports Program is a community-oriented sponsorship for children who participate in local sports teams. The program emphasis is placed more on fun, learning and participation rather than winning or losing.
There are also valuable lessons the honourary coaches help to instill in kids, such as teamwork, dedication and confidence. All these lessons will help to develop good, solid people as they grow older and progress through life.
