Grey Cup train tour on track

The 2012 CFL season celebrates the 100th year of the Grey Cup.

To commemorate this milestone, the Grey Cup will travel across Canada by train in the Grey Cup 100 Tour presented by RONA.

The Grey Cup 100 Tour began in Vancouver on Sept. 7 and ends in Toronto the weekend before the Grey Cup on Nov. 25. The tour will make 10 major stops including a stop in Calgary and the remaining seven home cities of CFL teams.

The goal of the tour is to take the Grey Cup from coast to coast to promote the CFL and the 100th Grey Cup game to as many Canadians as possible.

The Grey Cup will be transported on a CP Rail train which will act as a traveling interactive museum. Fans who come out to greet the train as it arrives at each tour stop can walk through the train and learn about Grey Cup history.

Visitors can enjoy the CFL Museum and CP Rail Museum Cars. There is a car dedicated to the Grey Cup where fans can get their picture taken with the trophy and the Team Car which features the lockers of some of the great players currently in the CFL.

TSN will be following the Grey Cup 100 Tour giving Canadians an in-depth look at the festivities. Social media personality Kate McKenna will cover the entire tour and provide daily tour updates to be shown on TSN. Follow on Twitter @CFLKate.

The Calgary tour stop, the 100 Grey Cup Fan Celebration Day, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the southern side of the Anderson C-Train Station.

Fans can enjoy football skills and drills, player and Outrider appearances as well as exclusive CFL activities. Attendees can also try out the local cuisine served up by Calgary food trucks and exclusive CFL activities for fans of all ages.

Grey Cup 100 Tour souvenirs are available for purchase at the Stamps’ Store kiosk on site during the 100 Grey Cup Fan Celebration Day. Fans can buy team merchandise from Reebok, Canada Post 100th Grey Cup team stamps, Royal Canadian Mint 100th Grey Cup commemorative coins and Stephen Brunt’s “100 Grey Cups” book.

All tour stops, including Calgary, are free and open to the public.
