Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Charleston Hughes has been named one of the CFL’s players of the week for Week 11 of the Canadian Football League season.

Hughes had a dominant performance in the Stamps’ 16-7 Labour Day victory over the Edmonton Eskimos as he frequently applied pressure on the quarterback, recording three sacks, forcing an intentional grounding penalty and numerous hurried throws. Thanks to Hughes and his defensive colleagues, Edmonton’s quarterbacks completed just 18 of 40 passes on the day and the Eskimos accumulated just 42 rushing yards.

Hughes, who leads the CFL lead through 11 weeks with nine sacks, had a total of five tackles on Monday as he helped the Stamps record a fifth consecutive victory.

The veteran defensive lineman is the fifth Stamps player to be honoured in the CFL’s weekly awards this season as he joins a group that includes Jeff Fuller (Week 1), Jon Cornish (Week 4), Marquay McDaniel (Week 6) and Bo Levi Mitchell (Week 8).
