Red Deer Lake welcomes basketball squad

The Stamps basketball team made its way out to Red Deer Lake School on Wednesday afternoon for the fifth installment of the 2016 TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program.

The boys and girls of the Red Deer Lake Dragons faced Brandon Boudreaux, Ben D’Aguilar, Rob Maver, Deron Mayo, Bo Levi Mitchell, Rene Paredes, Quinn Smith and Adam Thibault as the Red and White ultimately prevailed with a 55-50 victory in the fun-filled event.

A trio of Outriders joined Ralph the Dog as the entire student body cheered loud and proud from the sidelines. Team pictures and a player autograph session followed the game as kids eagerly awaited the signatures of some of the Stamps’ biggest stars.

Mayo’s relentless offensive rebounding and numerous scores from under the basket by D’Aguilar powered the Stampeders over the fast-paced Dragons. Maver, making his season debut on the hardwood, also got on the scoresheet early.

Red Deer Lake’s most outstanding  female player was presented with a Stamps team-signed jersey while the male player of the game went home with a Bluetooth speaker courtesy of TELUS, who also awarded Selfie Sticks to four lucky fans.

The 2016 TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program will begin the final week of its schedule at noon on Tuesday, Mar. 29, with a trip to Calgary’s Valley Creek School.
