Stamps help hungry kids

For Frank Beltre and Rene Paredes, Monday morning was spent in the kitchen.

The two Stampeders teammates stopped by the Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids headquarters to prepare 1,448 lunches for young local students who otherwise would go without critical nourishment.

After sealing and packaging four types of sandwiches to be delivered by 12 volunteer drivers, the duo then prepared cookies while others sliced fruits and vegetables to complete the meal.

In total, an astounding 3,200 kids were impacted today alone by Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids. Gift cards, cash donations and smaller kitchens in churches and community centres will also contribute to the total. As well, the organization provides raw ingredients to schools on a regular basis in order for students to prepare their own lunches within their food classes.

During the summer months when school is not in session, the organization works to supply lunches to various day camps throughout the city of Calgary.

Since January, Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids has made 87,618 midday meals for students in need.

Community groups, corporate teams and independent citizens are all encouraged to donate their time to assist Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids in their partnership with 190 schools of pupils ranging from kindergarten to Grade 12.
