Cheering from Section S

Andrew Buckley is as Calgary as they come, having been born and raised in the city and now playing for the local football heroes as the short-yardage quarterback in his rookie season.

A big part of Buckley’s history with the Stampeders was regularly attending football games with family and friends, staking out their usual territory, two rows in section S.

And it wasn’t just fair-weather viewing either. Buckley remembers many games where temperatures dipped yet the fun remained.

“As a kid, we’d always come with the family,” says the former U of C standout.

“We’d have two rows of family up in section S there. We’d always be bundled up in the cold and just watching some football and eating chips, just enjoying the weather.”

This season, the Stampeders have spoiled the city with one of the most remarkable records in the CFL in a long time, having gone 15-2-1, bested only by the 1989 Edmonton Eskimos.

Chasing the perfect ending to this season, the Stamps will first have to earn their berth to the Grey Cup game by winning the West Division.

Complicating matters for the Red and White, because of the way the CFL schedule fell this year, they will have 29 days between their final regular season game and the Western Final on Nov. 20.

Buckley wants fans to be sure to come out and cheer their team on and create one more memory of cold-weather football with friends and family.

“It’s going to be cold but there is a lot on the line, which makes it exciting. Being there with family and friends makes it really cool,” says Buckley.

For any who are hesitant to brave what may possibly be some chilly temperatures at McMahon, Buckley has some tips he’s gathered over the years of watching football from section S.

“If you bundle up appropriately and cheer loud, you’ll stay warm.”

Be at McMahon on Sunday, Nov. 20 and create one more memory. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
