The Calgary Stampeders have signed national fullback Charlie Power to a new contract. The Okotoks product was eligible to become free agent in February.

Power was drafted in the fourth round, 28th overall, by Calgary in 2013 and he joined the Stamps in 2014 after completing his career at the University of Saskatchewan. He has appeared in 33 regular-season games over three seasons with the Red and White.

“Charlie has done a great job improving his skills as a core special-teams player,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “I look forward to his continued growth on offence.”

In 2016, Power played all 18 regular-season games and recorded 17 special-teams tackles, one defensive tackle, one blocked punt and one forced fumble. He also had two receptions. Power added two special-teams tackles in the Western Final and one special-teams tackle in the Grey Cup.

Power’s career stats include 26 special-teams tackles, two forced fumbles, one defensive tackle, one blocked punt and three catches for 10 yards.

“Calgary is my home and, over the past three years, the players and coaches have become my family,” said Power. “This is where I wanted to be and I’m happy and grateful we were able to get a deal done.”
