Up to the Challenge

Three Stampeders players participated in a Calgary Corporate Challenge event on Monday afternoon and effectively transferred their talents from the field to the ice.

Rene Paredes, Quinn Smith and Spencer Wilson came out for Human Bonspiel at downtown’s Olympic Plaza in support of KidSport Calgary. And while the main objective was to fundraise for a worthy local charity, the trio also managed to take down the competition.

Sliding down the ice after leaping onto an inner tube, each squad had a total of four turns per round in attempt to finish as close to the middle of the target as possible. Measurements were taken after each slide to determine which team was most accurate.

Each group was involved in three separate heats before the eliminations began.

Defeating a handful of other teams including representatives from Canadian Blood Services, Global Calgary and members of the University of Calgary Dinos men’s and women’s hockey teams, the Stamps took first place. Therefore, the Red-and-White clad qualified for the final day of competition on Friday, Feb. 10.

Hot drinks and various snacks were graciously donated by local business to be enjoyed by participants and volunteers alike.

Throughout the event, KidSport Calgary was collecting hockey gear to be donated to children in need of equipment.
