The Calgary Stampeders have acquired a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2018 draft from the Ottawa RedBlacks in exchange for international quarterback Drew Tate.

A 32-year-old native of Baytown, Tex., Tate joined the Stampeders in 2009 and played in 129 regular-season games for the Red and White while making 14 starts. He also appeared in 10 post-season contests – including a start in the 2012 Western Semi-Final victory over Saskatchewan – and two Grey Cups. Tate scored two touchdowns in short-yardage situations in the Stamps’ 2014 Grey Cup victory over Hamilton.

“We thank Drew for everything he has done for the organization over the past eight years and wish him the best of luck,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel.

Over his career with the Stamps, Tate completed 380 of 572 passes for 32 touchdowns with 15 interceptions. He served as the Stampeders’ holder for field goals and as the short-yardage quarterback at various times during his stint with the Stamps. In 2014, Tate led the CFL with 10 rushing touchdowns.
