Although the Stampeders won’t be back on the field until late May, five members of the Red and White attended training camp of a different kind on Saturday afternoon.

The third annual Flames Health Training Camp hosted by the Flames Foundation saw team members Andrew Buckley, Rob Maver, Deron Mayo, Rene Paredes and Adam Thibault lend a hand at various stations throughout the day.

Activities included footwork exercises on the track with the assistance of Mayo, Cor.Fit instruction with Buckley and Maver and also a family skate with Paredes and Thibault. In addition, all five players visited the ice house to slide down the luge track alongside Flames mascot Harvey the Hound.

Health testing, nutrition classes and guest speakers, highlighted by Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of BodyBreak, were other notable features of Flames Health Training Camp at Winsport’s spacious state-of-the-art facility.

Flames Health Training Camp is designed to promote active and healthy lifestyles for all Calgarians. Approximately 1,700 individuals registered for this yearly event, which is offered free of charge.

Students from Mount Royal University’s massage therapy program were performing massages for attendees of all ages and Flames alumni Curtis Glencross and Brendan Morrison stopped by to sign autographs for fans.

“Today was a great chance for us to encourage healthy habits and show youth the importance of good exercise,” said Paredes. “It was the second year in a row I’ve been here and my teammates and I definitely see the value of having all these great resources in one place for the participants to easily access.”
