Thanks to the efforts of Ben D’Aguilar, Rob Maver, Rene Paredes and Spencer Wilson, the Stampeders basketball team kept their unblemished record intact.
The squad made the drive to Mountain Park School on Wednesday morning where they faced a pack of talented Wolverines. First up were the juniors before the senior players took over.
Maver, making his much-anticipated 2017 debut, finished as the Red and White’s leading scorer. Fellow special-teamer Paredes knocked down some outside shots as well to pitch in offensively.
In order to accommodate everyone enrolled at Mountain Park, one group took in the first two quarters and then filtered out to allow the remaining students a chance to see witness the TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program up close.
Ralph the Dog made an appearance to entertain the crowd, as did Mountain Park’s own Wolverine mascot, Whiskers. The two furry friends competed in both a three-point contest as well as a humorous dance-off during the halftime break.
After the Stamps’ win, a group picture and brief autograph session took place.
The two players of the game representing the Wolverines were Gracie and Colton. Their prize packages included tickets to an upcoming Calgary Roughnecks game along with a TELUS calendar, selfie stick and critter.
On Friday afternoon, the TELUS Stampeders Basketball Program will venture out to Okotoks where the Stamps will surely have their hands full at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School. The following week will then see the Stamps close out their season with a pair of dates on the hardwood.
