Stamps trade up, draft Randy Colling

The Calgary Stampeders have selected defensive lineman Randy Colling with the sixth overall pick in the Canadian Football League draft.

The Stampeders acquired the sixth pick in a draft-day trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for the eighth and 34th overall selections.

The 26-year-old Colling was born in the U.S. but recently obtained his Canadian citizenship, qualifying for that status because his father Kirby was born in Hamilton, Ont.

Colling, who stands six-foot-five and weighs 314 lbs., has played four years in the Arena Football League for the Cleveland Gladiators, making 74 tackles and 14.5 sacks.  He attended mini-camps with the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers before signing a futures contract with the Buffalo Bills. He also spent time with the New York Giants.

Colling played four years at Division II’s Gannon University Golden Knights (2008-11) and recorded 220 tackles, 48 tackles for loss and 25 sacks.
