STAMPEDERS SIGN FIVE FOR ROOKIE CAMP

The Calgary Stampeders have added five players to their rookie-camp roster including three defensive backs – internationals Trenton Coles, Marvin Ross and Jordan Sefon – and two linebackers – national Riley Jones and international Todd Thomas.

Trenton Coles

College: Duquesne
Height: 6.02
Weight: 168
Born: Sept. 23, 1992
International

Coles attended rookie mini-camp with the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. In his senior season at Duquesne University in 2015, he had 19 tackles, two interceptions, one sack, one forced fumble and four pass breakups. He transferred to Duquesne after two seasons (2013-14) at the University of Pittsburgh.

Marvin Ross

International

Ross played three seasons (2013-15) for the Columbus Lions of the Professional Indoor Football League and one season (2016) with the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. He was named the Arena Football League’s rookie of the year in 2016. Ross played four seasons (2009-12) at Florida A&M, accumulating 113 total tackles, four interceptions, 14 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and one blocked kick during his time with the Rattlers.

Jordan Sefon

International

Sefon was signed as an undrafted free agent by the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons on May 5, 2016. In college, he played 47 games over four seasons (2012-15) at St. Cloud State. He amassed 217 total tackles for the Huskies with 13 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was first-team all-conference in 2014, second-team all-conference in 2012 and 2013 and honourable mention in 2015.

Riley Jones

Jones played 34 games over five seasons (2012-16) with the UBC Thunderbirds. In 2016, he recorded career highs with 20 solo tackles and 21 assisted tackles and he had 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. In the 2016 Hardy Cup against the University of Calgary, he returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown. Jones was a member of the Thunderbirds’ Vanier Cup-championship squad in 2015.

Todd Thomas

International

Thomas was signed as an undrafted free agent by the National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars on May 7, 2015, and added to the Jaguars’ practice squad on Sept. 6, 2015. He played 45 games and made 34 starts over four seasons (2011-14) at the University of Pittsburgh. He recorded 251 total tackles over the course of his career with the Panthers including 17 tackles for loss. Thomas added three sacks, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and 11 pass breakups.
