Halftime – Stamps 15, Lions 3

Through two quarters of action in Tuesday night’s 2017 pre-season opener, the Stampeders lead the BC Lions 15-3 at McMahon Stadium.

On the Red and White’s first play from scrimmage, quarterback Andrew Buckley ran up the middle to move the chains with a 10-yard pickup. Two additional first downs would be gained before Rob Maver came on to punt the ball out of bounds at BC’s three-yard line.

The Lions responded with an 18-yard snag by first-year receiver Danny Vandervoort, however the drive soon stalled as the Stamps’ Tunde Adeleke fielded a 46-yard boot from BC’s Ty Long.

Near the end of the opening quarter, a strip-sack of Keith Price by Calgary’s Cordarro Law resulted in a 16-yard loss once Antonio Johnson of the Lions fell on the loose ball.

A second takedown from Law and an open-field tackle by linebacker Todd Thomas closed out the 15-minute frame for the homeside.

Just over three minutes into the second, Maver launched an 82-yard punt, and coupled with tremendous downfield coverage, BC was forced to begin at their own seven-yard line.

Mitchell Gale then entered the game in place of Buckley and soon handed off to Jacobi Green who exploded through the hole for a 35-yard rumble. The Richmond alum went untouched until crossing the goal line to break the scoreless tie.

When the Stamps defence returned to the turf, Jameer Thurman had a free shot at Price to bring up third down for Lions.

The second touchdown on the night came via a Thurman forced fumble on Price and a Derek Wiggan recovery in the endzone. With the Paredes convert, Calgary led 14-0 with 2:24 to go before the half.

After a Paredes single, Marvin Ross jumped the route of R.J. Harris to enable the Stamps to take over just shy of midfield.

Shaquille Johnson’s one-handed catch got BC into field goal range for the final play before the break, and Ty Long spilt the uprights from 46 yards out as the Lions got on the board just before heading to the locker room.
