Renfrow: It was a big week for me

I came in yesterday morning as usual whenever you’re not expecting to play and you have to work out. I came early, stretched out, had a little bit of a lift and we even ran. Then I went home and still didn’t have a call at 2 p.m. so I was thinking I probably wasn’t playing. Then at 2:45 p.m., they called me. So I just had to get ready to go. I had some mistakes but I did decent. There’s always some room to get better and it definitely will help that I get a full week to prepare for next week if needed.

I’m lucky that I do take reps during the week on the practice roster. Offensive line coach Pat DelMonaco is always on me and asking me questions to make sure I’m in-tune. So I think I owe him some credit for continuing to make sure I’m focused. Even if I’m not playing, I’m always texting Pat questions after watching the film. So I think it’s a combination of him helping me and also leaning on the other guys on the O-line. Everybody had confidence in me, so when the people around you have confidence in you, I think that helps a lot.

Honestly I was just happy because it happened when my dad was in town from Philadelphia. He was just coming to visit and it ended up that he was able to be here to see me play. I got to show him the Calgary Tower, see different restaurants and just see downtown. So it was good for him to see that and then of course we talked about the game.

It was also a big week for me because my grandma went into the hospital. She’s doing well now and everything is looking up. We were a little worried on Friday and Saturday, but that’s part of the job – you’ve got to be focused and ready to go and you can’t let things outside affect how you play on the field.
