Labour Day was special for Anthony Parker

Anthony Parker had the Labour Day Classic circled on his calendar all season.

And for good reason.

It was the 100th game of his CFL career.

“When I looked at the schedule at the start of the season and I saw that game 100 was going to be on Labour Day, it couldn’t be more perfect,” admitted Parker. “The big thing for me was making sure that I was playing in that game. Here we are, we made it, had an outstanding game, an outstanding week and now we’re building for the end of the season.”

Earlier in the week, Parker and his wife Patricia celebrated the birth of their fourth child.

He kept the celebration going by continuing his dominance of Labour Day. Parker took a handoff from Bo Levi Mitchell and scampered 24 yards, weaving through traffic for the early second-quarter touchdown.

“You know what, guys made a couple of great blocks on that play that I was able to read off of and I made a good cut,” explained Parker. “Once I saw the end zone, there was no stopping.”

“The play is designed to go outside, so when I got the handoff, the first thing I’m thinking is to outrun them to the sideline,” said Parker. “For some reason, something took my eyes upfield. I saw the defensive end flash. It was Rory [Kohlert] who was coming across in the pre-snap motion who made an outstanding block, cut his guy down. I was able to cut off of that, keep my balance, and the rest is history.”

That touchdown was Parker’s third in the last four Labour Day Classic matches. In those games, the 6-foot-1 receiver has compiled 146 receiving yards and 34 rushing yards to help the Stamps walk away as winners.

The seven-year veteran of the CFL —all with the Stamps — understands the magnitude of the game and knows you have to enjoy the moment.

“Calgary is my city and when you come back here and get the opportunity to play in a huge game like this, there’s no reason you shouldn’t go out there and have fun and play loose,” Parker said. “It’s worked out for me.”
